PhD Position on Pubertal Transition, Sex-Dimorphic Physical Changes and Well-Being in Cis- and Transgender Adolescents and in Patients With Variations of Sex Characteristics

Duration: 36 months
Are you interested in exploring pubertal development, sex‑dimorphic physical changes and well‑being in diverse adolescent populations during hormonal transitions? Do you want to be part of an international, interdisciplinary research network working at the intersection of endocrinology, psychology, public health, and social sciences? If so, this PhD position offers an excellent opportunity. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate for a 3‑year PhD fellowship funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) as part of the international research network Gender-InSIGHT.
About the position
You will become part of a large team of junior and senior researchers in the department with focus on pediatric endocrinology within healthy populations as well as within various patient groups. As part of the research team, you will be expected to take an active role in data collection by participating both in the practical aspects of the examinations and in the organisation of an ongoing clinical research project together with other PhD students. As a MSCA fellowship, you will also be expected to undertake a research stay at one of the partner institutions within the InSIGHT consortium. You can read more about the InSIGHT project here.
Who Are We Looking For?
We seek an engaged, independent and scientifically curious candidate with:
- A Master’s degree in Medicine
- Strong communication skills, especially in interactions with adolescents
- Motivation for interdisciplinary research
- Fluent in spoken and written English
The following qualifications are beneficial but not required:
- Experience with clinical work in paediatrics
- Experience with research, databases and basic statistics
- Knowledge of Danish or willingness to learn
You must be able to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
MSCA Mobility Requirement
To be eligible, you must not have lived or carried out your main activity (work, studies) in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the potential start of employment.

The Department of Growth and Reproduction at Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet is a highly specialised centre with internationally recognised expertise in:
- Pubertal development
- Growth and reproductive endocrinology
- Variations of sex characteristics
- Rare endocrine disorders
- Transgender adolescent health
The department hosts a large and vibrant research environment with junior and senior scientists from multiple disciplines, fostering rich opportunities for collaboration, supervision and academic development. Clinical activities include diagnostics and treatment of children, adolescents and men with endocrine and andrological conditions at the highest specialist level. You will have your own workspace within the department and the opportunity to participate in clinical conferences and educational activities.
Employment and Funding
This PhD fellowship is funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) under the Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement No. 101168576).
You will be employed full-time as a PhD Fellow at the Department of Growth and Reproduction, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.
